Gators Lacrosse Going Into Playoffs
April 29, 2022
After a very eventful season, full of big wins and a few tough losses, The Men’s Lacrosse Team placed 3rd in their conference and 10th in the state. This is the second time in school history that The Gators have made the playoffs, with their record this year exceeding everyone’s expectations. The Gators are in the SWAC which is the hardest conference in wake county this season.
The Gators just finished the last game of their season, facing off against The Apex Friendship Patriots for the second time. The last time these teams went head to head, Green Level won at home in a hard-fought game. This time was no different, with the game being neck and neck up until the very end. The game started off with The Gators ahead, managing to get a small lead over Friendship, with the score going into the second quarter being 5-2. In the second quarter, Friendship started making a run with a small comeback, resulting in the score going into halftime being 7-5, with The Gators still in the lead. The third quarter was the lowest-scoring quarter, and this quarter once again went in the favor of Friendship. The score going into the final quarter was 8-8, neither team managing to pull away. In the 4th quarter, The Gators stepped up and managed to take a decent lead over The Patriots with the final score being 12-9, a Gator win.
The MVP for this game was Junior defenseman, Michael (Mikey) Tucker. Mikey has had a great season, consistently locking up attackmen and making huge plays for the team. I asked Mikey a few questions about the game and how he performed.
How do you feel you performed against Friendship and what made you so successful?
“I think the game against Friendship went very well. I think I played good defense, and we were so successful in this game because our defense was so strong”
Are you excited for the postseason and how do you think the team will perform?
“I am excited that we made the playoffs, I think it will be tough but we’ll hopefully make it through a few rounds, I think we should perform well if we do what we know we can.”
Congratulations on a great season and good luck in the playoffs Gators!
