Tuesday night, October 4th, the Gators faced off against the Apex Cougars for the second time this season.

The Gators were confident going into this game, having swept them 3-0 the last time they played each other. The first set was a close one, with both teams competing but the Gators managed to pull away at the end, resulting in the final score for the set being 25-18 in the Gator’s favor. The second set was a battle all the way through, with neither team gaining a big lead over the other, but once again the Gators were victorious, winning the set 25-22. The Gators used their momentum from the first two sets and carried it on to the third and final set, sweeping the Cougars with a final set score of 25-20. This victory put the Gators ranked as #1 in the SWAC, tied with Green Hope and Middle Creek!

I interviewed Asia Thigpen, a Junior volleyball star, and asked her a few questions about the game and the rest of the season.

How do you think the team performed?

I think we did a good job keeping our intensity and our defense was really good.

How is the team feeling now being ranked number 1 in the SWAC?

We are super excited, approaching playoffs because we want that high seed, we know that the Apex friendship and green hope games coming up are really important if we want to keep our seed.

What are your goals for the rest of the season?

Winning states and competing in the playoffs and then finishing in SWAC first.
