For the first time in school history, the Green Level Women’s golf team has advanced to the State Championship.

In order to qualify for states they needed to place top 2 out of all the teams and they did just that by placing 2nd behind a very good Pinecrest team.

Green Level’s low score on the day came from So. Lauren Eggers who shot a very impressive 73 followed by a 77 by Sr. Maddy Linares and an 81 by Sr. Ava Heaton. Since only 3 players can qualify as a team, Eliana Kim would have to qualify for states as an individual in order to play for the team at states. After a score of 85 and 4 playoff holes, she qualified for states as a Freshman. Eliana spoke on what emotions she was feeling during her playoff, ¨Some very intense emotions like nervousness, anxiety, but I was trying to stay confident and determined to win the playoff.¨

Senior Maddy Linares has made States all four years that she has played on the team and I got to talk to her about how this year was special compared to the others,
¨It is more special making it this year especially because we made it as a team but it’s also because it is my senior year and this is exactly what I wanted going into my senior year season, just for the team to do well and to make it all the way to states one last year.¨

I also got to talk with Coach Rogers on what he was most proud of from the team this year,
¨There are two things that come to mind as far as what I’m most proud about. First thing, I feel like the girls have really rallied and supported each other more than ever so far this year and I think there is a correlation there between our success this year compared to the years past. Second thing, every girl improved by 3 plus strokes from last year to this year. So the girls have been putting in a lot of work and just making it to states illustrates and shows the amount of work that they have put in.¨

From winning the first 4 matches of the season, to winning the conference and having 3 all conference players, the girls have accomplished their goal of making it to states and now have the opportunity to win it. States will be played at Pinehurst No. 6 next Monday and Tuesday, and girls we all wish you the best of luck. Go Gators and bring home that state title!
