Baseball Season Preview
February 27, 2023
The Green Level baseball team is looking forward to another hopefully successful season after finishing 13-10-1 overall and placing 3rd in the Southwest Wake 4A conference last year. Their roster this year consists of all upperclassmen looking to make a name for themselves, hopefully making a good run in the postseason. The returners from last year are now seniors, leading their younger teammates, and doing their best to make sure their last season at Green Level is one for the history books. Last season, the team was able to make the second round of playoffs, having a lead at first but unfortunately blowing the lead and having their season come to an end.
I asked the varsity coach, Coach Thorpe some questions about the baseball team.
What are you working on building on from last season?
We want to improve our overall record, we finished tied for third in our conference last season so we’d like to jump into the top 2 spots, we also want to improve our offense because our offensive numbers could be better.
What game are you most looking forward to this season and why?
In the third week of the season, we go to Hoggard to play a JV and Varsity doubleheader which I think will be really good for the guys. Hoggard has always been a good program, and being able to take a road trip as a program and bond as a team is something we’re all looking forward to.
How do you think the team is compared to last season?
I think we’ve definitely got a little bit more of a competitive nature, the guys like to compete and make each other better. I think it’s just a good group that pushes each other and picks each other up which is going to pay off in the end.
Do you think you have a chance of making a playoff run this year?
I think we can definitely make a playoff run, we made it to the second round last year and blew a late lead but we have some of those guys back and have added some talented juniors. We play in a tough conference which will prepare us for playoffs all season long and hopefully we will be able to do some damage in the postseason.
