The men’s lacrosse team defeats Orange High in their first game of the season.

On Monday night, the Green Level Men’s Lacrosse Team started their season off with an out-of-conference game against Orange High School. After a very successful season the year before, the Gators were looking to start this one out with a win. Varsity was originally supposed to play at 7 PM, but due to impending weather conditions, their game got moved up to 5. After an hour-long drive to get to Orange, the Gators had just under an hour to get warm before the first game of their season.

Orange High School was led by their impressive Junior goalie, Katie Wolter. Attending a school without a girls’ lacrosse team, Wolter is eligible to play on the boys’ team at Orange, per N.C. High School Athletic Association Rules.

The Gators started the game out strong with a 5-1 lead in the first quarter, with Kelan Moore scoring 2 of them. In the second quarter, Orange High School put up a good fight and made a small comeback, shortening the Gators’ lead to 8-5 going into the second half. Green Level pulled away in the third quarter, putting up 4 goals and keeping Orange to 1, making the score going into the fourth and final quarter 12-6. The competition didn’t let up in the fourth quarter with both teams fighting until the end, ending in a Gator win, 14-9.

I interviewed Sophomore Kelan Moore, who had a whopping 6 goals.

How do you feel about your individual performance last night?

I’m excited to have a start like that for our season and to show out after missing the end of the season for an injury last year.

How do you think the team performed as a whole?

We have a very talented team this year and I think overall we still had a good game but we had a lot of missed opportunities and penalties that we could have done differently but now we can fix those things and perform better as a whole.

What a great way to start out the season, good luck at your first home game on Thursday against Cary High School!
