Men’s Golf Team Continues Their Fight for 1st

Scoreboard of the match at Devils Ridge

L. Eggers, Staff Writer

On Monday, 4/10, the men’s golf team took on the SWAC at Devils Ridge. This was their first SWAC match since getting back from spring break and they made sure to work hard. Before this match, the team had placed 3rd four times and 2nd twice. There are only 2 more conference matches before the conference championship at Keith Hills on May 1st.

The team was led by SO. Quin Covington and JR. Cooper Champ this year as they both fired a 39 (+3). Green Hope took home first place with a team score of 145. Apex Friendship snatched second with a score of 153 and the Gators got 3rd with 159.

The next few weeks are going to be very important for the team. I got the chance to talk to Coach Rogers about the upcoming weeks.

How are you feeling going into the last few matches?

I feel good, I feel like as a team we are peaking at the right time. We’ve been placing in the top 3 in every match thus far. Some of the guys on the team have been lowering their scores every match so I feel good. Just trying to make sure that we peak at the right time as we get closer to the conference championship, regionals, and states.

What are your goals for the rest of the season?

Definitely think a goal would be to qualify for regionals as a team and then qualify for states as a team. Just make sure that we are playing our best golf towards the end of the season.

Good luck to the team in their next few matches! We know you are going to do great!
