Softball Season Update
April 15, 2023
Our Green Level softball team has moved to 2-5 in the conference and 4-7 overall for their 2023 season. As of now, they are 6th place in SWAC; however, with seven games still left in the season there is still time to move up in the rankings.
Their wins have been against South Garner, Cary, Athens Drive, and Green Hope.
When talking with the Varsity Head Coach, Coach Connelly, about how the season is going so far, she says, “Pretty well, we have already improved our wins number from last year so there is obvious improvement incoming.”
So far, JR. Katherine Geiser is leading the team with the highest batting average, with 0.500, as well as 13 base hits. Not far behind is JR. Lily Kirby, with a batting average of 0.455 and 10 base hits.
On April 11th, they played their last first-round conference game where they lost a close game to the Patriots, 3-4. FR. Sloane Kessler led the Gators with a batting average of 1.000. Geiser, Kirby, & SR. Jenna Leek each added to the score with a run.
Their game scheduled for Friday, April 14th versus Cary was canceled due to inclement weather. They will take on Middle Creek for the second time this season on Tuesday, April 18th.
“We now know what we are up against for each team and will try to get the right batting order along with the correct pitchers on the mound against each and every team…
We will be making sure that we have the correct defensive support for each of our pitchers, and of course hopefully score more runs and make sure we are making contact on the first strike not allowing anything to fly by,” says Coach Connelly.
Best of luck to our Gators as they take on SWAC teams for the second time this season!
