Track & Field Makes Strides
April 18, 2023
Our Green Level track & field team has continued to improve in their 2023 season.
Their most recent meet was the Apex Lions’ Relay on April 15th.
In the boy’s events, SR. Alex Fernandez placed 9th with a time of 4.20.43 in the 1600m run. The 4x1600m relay team placed 7th with a time of 19:15.10, and the 4x800m team placed 9th with a time of 8:21.44.
“Me personally, I have continued to see progress in my main event in the 400 meter and looking for a big PR in my upcoming meet. Additionally, I have stepped up in the 4×2 with a big .5 second PR putting me on the A team relay. I want to carry this energy into the end of the season and pick up in the winter with indoor,” says Hussain Hassan, who is a junior on the team.
In the girl’s events, Alexa Nestor placed 2nd with a time of 14.58 in the 100m hurdles and second in long jump with a distance of 18-07.50. Nestor continues to hold the conference record for the 100mH event with a time of 14.49 and the 300mH event with a time of 45.93; both from the Athens Drive Friday Night Lights meet.
The 4x1600m relay team placed first with a time of 22:16.64, the 4x800m team placed second with a time of 9:47.91, and the distance medley relay placed 7th with a time of 13:29.56.
SR. Chorley Truitt placed 13th with a distance of 33-07.75 in triple jump, and 12th in discus with a distance of 85-05.00.
The results of the 4X1600, long jump, and 4x800m, all created new records at the top of the conference.
“As a team, we have really improved over the course of this season. I would like to highlight our girls’ team’s performance with breaking a state record in the 4×1600 at the Apex Lions Relays. Additionally more people have been showing out and stepping up on the track and in the field,” says Hassan.
