On Wednesday afternoon, Manchester City took on league leaders Arsenal in a showdown that many believe will determine the champion of England. The Gunners came into the match leading the league by five points with two more games played than Manchester City. Arsenal has drawn their last three games and many believe this is why they will fail to win the league this year.

Manchester City began to fly around as soon as the whistle was blown, taking 3 shots inside of the first two minutes. Kevin De Bruyne was tackled inside the box by Thomas Partey on a controversial no-call in the third minute. Although the score was 0-0 for the first few minutes, Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne broke the deadlock with a screamer from outside the box after a beautiful ball control and feed from Erling Haaland off of a long ball from John Stones. With the tie broken, both offenses went quiet for the next half hour until Manchester City won a free kick from 40 yards out. Kevin De Bruyne stepped back to take it and swung it into the box for a John Stones header goal. This goal was originally disallowed but after a VAR review, it was overturned and Manchester City went up 2-0 in added time to end the first half.

Early in the second half, Kevin De Bruyne received another through pass from Erling Haaland that De Bruyne put between Rob Holding’s legs and past Aaron Ramsdale to put the Cityzens up 3-0 and secure the win. Although Rob Holding was able to put a missile past Ederson in the 86th minute it would not be enough as it was canceled out by Erling Haaland’s record-breaking 33rd goal of the season in the Premier League to officially put Manchester City only down 2 points with two games in hand, and a fairly light schedule to end the season. Arsenal cannot afford to drop any more points and will need to put their best lineup out every game to secure the 3 points every time. Manchester City still has a tall task as they are currently in 3 competitions and will be playing a game almost every 3 days for the next month. Manchester City still has hopes of winning a treble and are the current favorites to do so. The Premier league ending will for sure be a movie, with the competition still in the air like a jump ball.
