2023 Mens 4A State Championship

2023+Mens+4A+State+Championship

With Green Level finishing 2nd in a very competitive SWAC conference the Gators had high confidence heading into regionals and this showed with 4 of our men’s golfers qualifying for states which would mean they get to go as a team for the 2nd straight year.

With the 2022 men’s team finishing 11th out of the 15 teams last year, this year the goal is for a top ten in one of the most competitive team events in the country. This year, just like last year, states will be played at Pinehurst #8 which has just recently had some work done. According to Pinehurst website “No. 8 underwent subtle aesthetic and agronomic renovations. Leaving the course architecture untouched, No. 8 now boasts TifEagle greens, fully restored bunkers with fresh sand and improved drainage throughout the course. The result is a firmer, faster feel, the way Tom Fazio originally intended it.”

We got to talk to a few of the Gators who will be competing next week and here’s what they had to say:

First we asked SOPH. Quin Covington about how his prior experience at States would help him this year, “Since I have played the course 3 times now I should be more prepared and last year the greens were very fast so I should be more prepared for that as well.”

Next team member we got to talk to was  SR. Drew Eggers and we asked what it means to make states your senior year, “It means a lot. Last year my only goal stepping on the tee was to make states and I played really well but this year I didn’t  play so well and to peak at the right time and to make states means so much to me.”

Last team member we talked to was JR. Peter Pucci and we talked about how it is to make states for the first time, “It feels really good and with an underwhelming season and high scores I was really happy to be able to put up a good score and reach my goal of making states.”

With the last interview being Head Coach Ben Rogers we asked him, how it feels to make it to states with it being his first year as part of the program, “Feels great, super proud of the guys for all the hard work they put in and for being the only team to qualify with 4 individuals and that is something I’m extremely proud of them for and can’t wait to see how they do this coming Monday and Tuesday.”

We wish the best of luck to the men’s team this coming week!
