As fall sports come to an end in the swamp, we welcome the winter sports happening around Green Level! These winter sports include men’s and women’s basketball, indoor track/ field, men’s and women’s wrestling, and swimming/diving. To close out fall sports, volleyball ended their season marked by consistent wins with an 18-7 record, men’s soccer is still holding on strong in the 4A East playoffs, women’s gymnastics, women’s golf, women’s tennis and cross country are all still finishing out their great seasons, and football also had a memorable season full of battling and endless effort.
Last year, men’s and women’s basketball ended their seasons 19-9 and 11-16. It is highly anticipated what both teams will be able to accomplish this upcoming season. “We have a really strong starting lineup, big expectations. We are trying to go to States this year, and ultimately just emerge as a team,” says Israel Eatman, starting shooting guard on the men’s Varsity basketball team, voicing his thoughts and goals on the 23-24 season.
In the 22-23 season of women’s and men’s wrestling, they won the SWAC Conference and qualified for Dual States. “Last year was a very memorable season and I hope we can exceed our expectations and exceed our goals,” says Jr. Lily Silvera, expressing her excitement for the upcoming women’s wrestling season.
“I think it will be a good season, we didn’t lose many seniors last year so I believe we still have a good team left, as well as a good coach,” says Sr. Aidan Middleton, speaking on his perspective of the upcoming men’s wrestling season.
Indoor track and field, as well as the swim and dive team also had a very well-driven and successful season last year. They are foreseen to hit the ground running, keep the momentum going from last season, and make their mark.
Closing off fall sports for another year at the swamp, fans and supporters all around are ignited with excitement to welcome winter sports, and to see what the Green Level athletics program can do this season.
