Ever since the beginning of the school year, there has been an influx of computers and people using our school internet connection for various tasks. This has caused multiple problems with students being able to access their assignments, work on them efficiently, and submit them on time. With well over 2,000 students at the school and the largest freshman class this school has seen at over 600 students, problems with the Wifi are bound to occur.
Our school has seen more and more students coming in with each year which results in more and more people using the school’s Wifi. Also, as technology advances with things like Canvas’s new lockdown feature for taking tests and quizzes, teachers are moving more towards having all of their assignments online. As you can imagine, issues come up with certain sites or applications being temporarily shut down for a certain amount of time due to this increase in online activity.
Depending on where you go in the school, you may experience a better connection compared to other areas. For example, in the middle of the school, around the library, the connection will probably be good. However, once you move to the outskirts of the school such as around the healthful living hallway, you may experience issues. Shrihan Mamidi, a junior at Green Level who has personally experienced these issues claims, “I experience troubles with Wifi on a daily basis. It’s not smooth at all, and we always seem to have issues with Wifi. I am now using a VPN because of this to help make my Wifi run more smoothly.” This shows how internet issues affect students’ lives and the lengths they have to go to in order to have a good experience at school.
These issues may be due to the physical size of our school and the student capacity. One way this issue can be resolved is for teachers to make more of their assignments on paper rather than computer. This will have fewer people using the internet in the school, easing up the load of the Wifi. Either way, students and teachers should try to work together to find a solution to this recurring problem.
