The Duke vs UNC game is always a highly anticipated game for all fans. This rivalry runs deep between these two programs in almost every sport. Duke and UNC have been playing each other since 1888, UNC leads the series by 24 wins and have dominated their rivals throughout the whole series. Hate runs deep between these two programs and their fan bases. Their most recent game did not disappoint.
This matchup last Saturday was one of the most exciting games of the week. UNC had the lead for the majority of the game. The Tar Heels had a 17-0 lead at halftime and were looking for a shutout win against their rivals, but the Blue Devils made it interesting. Duke’s starting quarterback led the way for the comeback by throwing to running back Star Thomas. Star Thomas showed up when it really mattered by giving the Blue Devils another touchdown in the 4th quarter. The comeback was sealed by Duke with a late touchdown pass to wide receiver Peyton Jones and the fireworks began in Wallace Wade Stadium.
Some of our very own students here at Green Level were able to attend the game. The starting center for Green Level’s football team, Jack Sabol had to say this about the game, “I didn’t even think they were going to score early on after they missed the field goal and went down by 20, but they started to get the ball rolling and ended up coming back to score 3 touchdowns unanswered and sealing the game with an interception at the end. The environment was electric and I rushed to the field with my brother and thousands of other fans, it was a surreal experience to be down there with the team.” Another Green Level football player and UNC fan Matt Dickerson also had to say this about the game, “It was a great atmosphere to be around and just how you want a rivalry game to be, it was neck and neck coming down to the last play but sadly the game did not go how I wanted it to.”
This game was attended by many Green Level students and they all could tell you how exciting the game was. This rivalry doesn’t just stop at football, it is in every sport and this football game was worthy of being called one of the top games this week.
