U.S. News states that Green Level is ranked #2 in Wake County Schools High Schools. Our community, PTA, students, and administrators play a vital role in running the school smoothly. Karen Summers, our GLHS principal, has taken significant steps in improving our school and advancing it to the next level.
Mrs. Summers emphasizes that keeping the school in this pristine state is not only a one-man job. “Hiring the right teachers is a key factor.” During the hiring process, Mrs.Summers looks for people who understand our generation and have similar interests and values.
The school environment is based on suiting the student’s needs and interests. “The student engagement piece is key. The student body is wickedly bright and brings many insights to the table.” The student body also has a strong desire to connect to others and is surrounded by people who don’t wish to be treated in the same stereotypical way of the teacher being of higher power than the student.
“It’s more of the teacher being the facilitator of how you learn, and collaborating to bring out the best in you to think and analyze.”
Creating a comforting environment improves the school’s academics and connects the kids to the admin and teachers. Accepting differences allows people to bond further and is critical in understanding one another.
“Opportunities,” says Mrs. Summers when asked about the big factor that allows everyone at Green Level to thrive and grow. “The larger amount of AP classes in GLHS is due to our students’ interest” and ambition.
“To take you to the next level of getting a 3 to a 5, truly is that teacher engagement, making you curious and passionate for learning.”
The options for students to choose what they are interested in and creating a welcoming environment allow students to explore and pursue what they enjoy. Hiring the right people helps you explore what’s next, what you think you should do in the future, and what life will be like after high school.
Our school supports 3 main programs that elevate our students and attract the influence that we have. Our athletic, arts, and academic programs emphasize our impact on the community.
