Undoubtedly, with over five state championship titles in the five years since the school opened—and considering two of those years were unable to compete in sports due to COVID—the Green Level Athletics program is a well-oiled machine and a force to be reckoned with.
In 2021, the Women’s Volleyball team was the first to bring home a state championship title to the school. The team, as the second seed, fought its way through a very competitive field that year, eventually defeating the first seed 3-0.
In 2022, the Women’s Gymnastics team secured their first state championship. Leading the way was sophomore Ava-Marie Callahan, now a senior on the gymnastics team. Ms. Callahan tied for first place in both the Floor and Bar exercises, winning an individual state championship—she remains the first and only Gator to achieve this. The team scored 116.6 points overall, tying with Millbrook High School for the 4A NC State Championship.
On November 9th, 2024, the Green Level High Gymnastics team brought another state championship home. They scored a total of 116.075 points in a very competitive meet. This was a remarkable comeback after last year’s last-place finish at the state championship. Ava-Marie Callahan won an individual state championship again, becoming the second and only Gator to do it.
Sophomore Caroline Dobrowski made significant achievements at this year’s championship, including first-place finishes for uneven bars and the floor exercise. Her floor routine scored a perfect 10, the first in Gator Gymnastics history.
“It was my goal for this whole season, and it was my last chance to get it done,” Dobrowski said. “So I knew I needed to push as hard as I could.”
Ava-Marie Callahan, the captain of the Green Level Gymnastics team, is also an official commit to the UCLA Bruins Gymnastics team. Ava-Marie won the all-around for her second individual championship, adding to her impressive list of achievements.
“Being able to be the first Gator to win an individual is a dream come true, let alone being the second in addition,” Callahan stated. “I’m lucky to be surrounded by my teammates and coaches on this journey.”
Dobrowski and Callahan both heavily contributed to this year’s state championship. As Callahan moves on to pursue college, Dobrowski has the spotlight to step in and take her place. Individuals don’t just win the championship title, and the Gator Gymnastics team is very proud of their teamwork and dedication to achieving this year’s title.
