One of the newest additions to Green Level’s many culture-based clubs is the Jewish Student Union (JSU). Green Level has expanded the number of student unions there are at our school to ensure inclusivity for all students and that the diversity of the school is represented.
Green Level is very diverse. Among students, 40 languages are spoken, and there is a wide range of ethnicities. Green Level wants to embrace diversity, so it encourages students to represent this through clubs.
Senior, Lily Silvera, is the co-founder of JSU at Green Level. She wanted to create this club to promote inclusivity and pride in Jewish culture saying, “I wanted to create a camaraderie within the really small Jewish community at the school. With the rise of antisemitism around the world, it’s now especially important to be proud of being Jewish. Also educating non-Jewish people and people who might not be familiar with the culture surrounding being Jewish.”
JSU has the potential to make a big impact on the school and our community.
“I hope to bring everyone together, Jewish or not, educate everybody, and create a safe space,” says Lily Silvera. This relatively new club is hoping to grow and gain members and supporters. There are a few ways to extend the reach of JSU in the school.
As mentioned by Silvera, “We have a lot of plans for the rest of the year alongside other clubs to collaborate in meetings and projects, we hope to grow it through that to create a unity of cultural clubs at Green Level.” There is a lot to look forward to, the future is bright for JSU.
