The Fall Athletic Banquet took place on Wednesday, November 20, at seven pm. This celebration is a time to recognize all of the fall athletes, as well as their seasons coming to a close and their accomplishments.
This special event brings together players, families, and coaches to reflect on memorable moments, acknowledge individual and team achievements, such as making it to playoffs, winning SWAC, or overall just having a successful season, and express gratitude towards those who made the season remarkable.
Athletes are recognized with rewards for their outstanding accomplishments. The coaches give a heartfelt speech recognizing their athletes and why they’re deserving of the reward before revealing who it is they chose.
An MVP award, a director’s award, and a coach’s award are given out to the most stellar athletes from each team. Additionally, all students who received the grades of an A and B honor roll during their season will be recognized.
This event is filled with a sense of community, shared stories, sportsmanship, and comradery of Green Level Athletics athletes that can serve as a reminder of all of the hard work, leadership, and companionship that made the seasons for these athletes possible. There will also be food and drinks for individuals to enjoy.
Nine teams are being honored; football, volleyball, men’s soccer, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s cross country, women’s gymnastics, and women’s tennis. All of these sports contain incredible athletes who deserve to be highlighted on this special night.
One of these incredible athletes is men’s soccer player Sawyer Backus, who is also committed to playing Division One soccer at The College of Charleston. After speaking with Backus, he remarks “The highlight of my senior season was just being able to play with all of my friends for my last year. I’m very excited for the banquet and can’t wait to see all of the athletes who are recognized.”
Backus also has very high hopes and expectations for the next years of Green Level Men’s Soccer, and hopes they will be able to win a SWAC Championship.
Overall, the Fall Athletic Banquet is a highly anticipated event by many and is a night filled with excitement and recognition of these amazing student-athletes and their accomplishments during their season.
