Valentine’s Day, February 14th, is a day individuals either hate or adore. It is a day made to celebrate love, affection, and relationships. Many see this day as the “worst holiday” because it is exclusive, and only the selected who are in these romantic relationships can be honored. To counter this, a special, unofficial holiday was created to recognize all meaningful relationships. That day is known as Galentine’s Day.
Galentine’s Day is when you completely forget about all things romantic and focus on the true friendships in your life. This day is meant to “be a day of empowerment, and a reminder for women to support and uplift one another,’ says the People Magazine. Galentine’s is typically celebrated on February 13th, as a way to not forget the true friendships in the midst of significant others.
Strong friendships, particularly among women, provide emotional support, encouragement, and joy. Galentine’s serves as a day to nurture these important relationships that are instrumental in our overall well-being and prosperity.
Galentine’s Day is celebrated in a variety of ways, but one tradition that is incredibly popular is having a get-together with your best girlfriends over many different foods and courses of delicious dishes. Obviously, everyone embraces the spirit of the occasion by dressing in traditional Valentine’s colors, those being various shades of pink and red.
Green Level Student Arya Shah has hosted a Galentine’s Get Together for two consecutive years in a row.
“This year, I just invited all of my closest friends over to my house. I did Galentine’s earlier in February just because everyone was so busy. Everyone brought a different food or drink, and we ended up having so much food including Chick-fil-A, sweets, and soft drinks,” says Shah.
Shah was able to enjoy and celebrate all of those dear friendships in such a fun and fulfilling way. This shows how beneficial Galentine’s is. In just one night, Shah was able to be surrounded by all of the best friendships in her life while enjoying a surplus of food and getting the full experience of a traditional Valentine’s event.
So, even if you feel like Valentine’s Day is the worst, Galentine’s Day offers the perfect alternative- no need to stress over romance. The only relationships you’ll have to turn to are the meaningful friendships that truly matter.
