MAYHEM is Lady Gaga’s 7th studio album. With this album, it followed up with her being the number one most streamed artist on Spotify as of release. After 5 years, she finally drops, and it seems as if the whole world stopped to listen.
MAYHEM has been breaking records, even for Gaga. For some clarity, MAYHEM (released March 7) racked up 219,000 equivalent album units in its first week. This is the biggest debut for a female artist this year and Gaga’s most significant streaming week ever. With this album being so successful, it’s expected to be curious as to why this has been Gaga’s biggest week.
With a survey, the tables turned for MAYHEM. Many Green Level fans of The Lady herself were pretty disappointed with the outcome of this album.
In the lead-up to this album, fans had many reactions. Mia Fernandaz-Revilla shared, “I was surprised that Lady Gaga was still making more albums, I thought she had retired into making singular songs.”
When it came to the album’s overall vibe, responses were mixed. Halle Piper, a junior, described it as a “goth emo serve,” while Ethan Seddon voiced his disappointment: “I think it’s pretty good, but if we are being for real, I’m not a fan of the vibe of this album. It’s just not unique enough for me. Even the album cover is bland.”
As for standout tracks, students had differing favorites. Some gravitate toward the dark, moody sound of ‘The Beast’, while others prefer ‘Disease’. However, not everyone was impressed with the tracklist. Ethan, again expresses some cons with the album. “Some of the songs are not correlating. I hate the name. Mayhem is such an annoying word. It’s just not giving enough.”
While Gaga’s latest project has made waves globally, it is clear that MAYHEM has sparked a range of reactions among Green Level students, from devoted praise to sharp critique. Love it or hate it, one thing is certain: Lady Gaga knows how to get people talking, especially Green Level gators.
