On Wednesday, March 26th, Green Level hosted its annual winter sports banquet in the auditorium, a night filled with pride, recognition, and camaraderie.
Athletes, coaches, and staff gathered to celebrate unforgettable seasons, honoring the dedication and hard work of all winter teams, including men’s and women’s basketball, swim and dive, indoor track, and wrestling.
This event was a tribute to the outstanding accomplishments of these student-athletes, who brought home championships, shattered records, and represented Green Level proudly.
Both basketball teams had remarkable seasons. The men’s team secured the regular-season and tournament titles in the SWAC before advancing to the fourth round of the Class 4A playoffs. The women’s team also impressed, finishing 19-10 and placing third in SWAC, led by Junior Claire Barber and Seniors Stella Eckhart and Ryan Baker.
The swim and dive team also claimed the SWAC championship title behind the efforts of Jonny Palamad, Lily Willis, Justin Park, Darren Liu, and Leo O’Keefe. Wrestling also had a great season, with Tommy Gingrich, Gabe and Aaron Sadler, and Will Estes all qualifying and competing in the NCHSAA State Finals. Senior Will Estes made his mark by becoming the first athlete in Green Level to surpass 100 career wins.
The evening contained a special awards ceremony led by Athletic Director Colin Fegeley, recognizing the athletes contributions and performances. Senior Isaac Erickson and Junior Claire Barber were named Winter Season MVPs, while Senior Phoebe Greengrass was honored with the Directors Award.
Junior Claire Barber broke the school record of most points scored in a single game, with a crazy 37 points. Barber also broke the program record for most 3-pointers made in a career while scoring her 112th.
“We had such an amazing season and all definitely grew as a team. I definitely made a lot of achievements this year and all of my teammates supported me the entire time. I was so honored to get the Winter Season MVP and was honestly really shocked as there were so many great athletes across all sports.” says Barber.
This night wasn’t just a celebration, it was a night to truly honor and recognize all of the achievements these athletes have earned and what they have contributed to their teams at Green Level.
