As we reach the midpoint of softball season at the swamp, the Green Level Softball team has shown remarkable growth, game by game, inning by inning. As they push to the end of the season and playoffs, the team gears up for more battles and major games ahead. Green Level Softball has a rocky history, their successful performance this season is trailblazing.
Coach Alexandria Connelly, who is also a science teacher at Green Level, is very proud of the team’s success this year.
Connelly says, “We’ve been doing good since our past years, so we’ve definitely shown improvement. We’ve been working really hard on the field and the girls have been working well together.”
Softball is a team sport, but individual player success makes a big impact on how the team flourishes. With a team with only four seniors, the softball team has a big variety of star players. From hitters to the outfield, breakout performances are shining.
“Sloane Kessler and Stella Pepin have been doing really well hitting, a lot of triples and a lot of inside-the-park home runs. Sloane actually had our first home run of the season this year against Cary,” mentions Connelly, “Emi Lyven has been doing really well in the outfield, and actually improving herself in diving.”
Stella Pepin, just a freshman, is having a remarkable season for her age. She acknowledges that the team’s chemistry is a big helper in her joining the team. The players gel well together and it is reflected in the many games they’ve won and the team morale going into the second half of the season.
Pepin says, “The chemistry on the team is really good, everyone gets along with each other and we all know each other really well. I’ve been enjoying getting to know everybody.”
Pepin’s personal performance, while impressive, is not enough for her ambitious attitude. As a young player she is driven towards advancing her skills and making an even greater impact on the field. She is a star at hitting, but she is looking to improve her defensive skills.
“I definitely have room for improvement.” Pepin remarks.
As the Green Level softball team embarks on this journey, they look ahead to the second half of the season. This team wields great potential, the coach and the players are looking to capitalize on this and make history. Connelly has big expectations for the players to continue to dominate on the field and improve their record.
Connelly’s goal for the rest of the season is, “To improve our record to where we have the best record in Green Level softball history.”
The next step for Green Level softball is coming up this Friday, 4/25. They will celebrate their seniors on Senior Night in a game against Green Hope. There will be a ceremony to kick it off and a celebration afterward. Their teammates are looking forward to celebrating with them but the feeling is quite bittersweet.
As the Green Level softball team takes off to wrap up the season, Green Level students are excited to see their success. Their peers and teachers at Green Level look to support the lady gators as they attempt to make Green Level softball history. Go Gators!
