There are over 170 clubs at Green Level, but one in particular gets a huge attendance rate every week. Green Level FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) meets every Thursday during connectivity to talk about the Christian faith, make connections with others, and eat some food.
FCA meets mainly outside of Mr. Colosi’s food classroom in the basement. They begin by holding a large group gathering outside, where all leaders and students come together to discuss announcements and the verse of the semester. Each semester, leaders of the club choose a specific verse to focus on, and students can choose to memorize it.
During large group, guest speakers from various churches around the area, including Summit Church, Green Level Baptist Church, and Trailside Church, come and speak to the students about a certain topic or passage from the bible. These messages are focused more on schooling, to provide students with different verses to help them through the school day.
After the large group, students are then split up into small groups based on gender and grade level. Each group has student leaders who lead their groups in short games and also talk about the message given by the guest speaker that day. These groups are ways to bond with people with similar interests and beliefs, while also being in a safe space to talk about problems and issues with others.
Many people have different experiences about how they became involved with FCA. FCA’s advisor, Jennifer Johnson, has one of those unique experiences.
“I did FCA in high school, and I had a teacher, Scott Ferguson, who I asked to be our FCA advisor,” Johnson said. “It really touched me because he was a young dad and he had 3 kids at home. That sacrifice and the commitment he made was very meaningful and impactful to me that he would do that.” Johnson explained.
Johnson also explained how this experience during high school influenced her to join Green Level FCA as an advisor.
“When I had the opportunity to take over from Mrs. Stanton, I felt like I could then give back what was given to me in high school,” Johnson said.
For the students at Green Level, she believes that FCA can positively impact them in many different ways.
“They can find meaningful relationships, can choose to grow in their faith, connect with others, and serve,” Johnson explained.
Make sure to check out FCA next Thursday morning, 9/25, during connectivity to start creating your own unique experience.
