Today, Friday, at 1:00 in the gym, Green Level will host its annual pep rally for Homecoming. Part of the festivities will include a moment to reveal the 2025 Teacher of the Year. We will come together to honor three extraordinary educators – Ms. Weeks, Mrs. Amerson, and Ms. Childress – as we celebrate their nominations for Teacher of the Year.
Ms. Weeks has been a part of the Green Level community for six years, teaching English and Yearbook. She finds delight in teaching and grew up loving the idea of having an impact on students’ education.
Weeks says, “I had some really great teachers growing up, and I always enjoyed working with kids in different capacities. I worked at camps and did a bunch of that stuff growing up, so I always knew I liked that part of things. So I think just the combination of that and both my grandmothers being teachers really inspired me.”
Many students, including senior Ava Harm, exclaim their gratitude for her teaching skills.
“She is really sweet, she is my club advisor, and she’s been really helpful with me running my club for the past two years in a row, so I think that she should win.” Says Harm.
Mrs. Amerson has also played a vital role as a teacher here at Green Level. This is her seventh year here, but she’s been teaching for 12 years in total. She teaches French, but before Green Level, she was an ESL teacher as well. Mrs. Amerson grew up around educators, mainly including her mom, who was her biggest inspiration.
“My mom was a teacher, and she’s also Polish, so that inspired me to study other languages. I grew up hearing it, so that really inspired me to learn Spanish and French.” Amerson said.
The diversity at Green Level is very high, there are many students who have moved from other countries. Many students here want to learn about other cultures and languages, and one of those students is Hasan Ttahsin. Hasan moved here from Turkey last year, knowing basic English. While his English grew better, he wanted to study and perfect his French. The person he thanks is Mrs. Amerson.
“I think she is really nice and sweet and always helps me with my French. Je t’aime, Mrs. Amerson!” Says Ttahsin.
Last but not least, Mrs. Childress is a well-known educator here at our school. She has been with us for three years, teaching AP world, economics, and personal finance. In her high school years, she found love for her job because of one of her teachers/coaches. She enjoys teaching and growing relationships with her students.
Childress says, “I was inspired to be a teacher because I love watching kids grow and building relationships. My high school basketball coach was also a history teacher, and I wanted to have a similar impact on other people.”
While most people know her as a strong coach, one student, Sathvik Talluri, knows her as an amazing teacher.
“I think Mrs. Childress should win, she was my teacher last year, and she was really funny and nice.” Says Talluri.
And now, after celebrating three incredible educators who give their hearts to Green Level every single day– Ms. Weeks, Mrs. Amerson, and Mrs. Childress– it’s time for the moment we’ve all been waiting for. Each of these teachers is a true difference-maker, but only one will take home the title this year. So let’s hear it one more time for our amazing finalists, and show up today and cheer very loudly as we proudly announce Green Levels Teacher of the Year!
