September 22 was the first official day of fall this year. Nevertheless, it’s still 90 degrees outside and the fall weather that everyone is waiting for is not coming just yet. In North Carolina, it is usual for it to still be a little warm, but the average temperature during the month of September is normally 71 degrees. This year alone, that number has increased by about 15 degrees, being at least 85 on most days.
Karthika Kondapaneni is a sophomore at Green Level High School and has been waiting for the fall weather to finally arrive so she can dress like autumn, since it is her favorite season.
“Fall is my favorite season and the pumpkin ties hit differently.” Kondapaneni said.
Places like Starbucks have already released their fall drinks, and grocery stores have already filled the place with pumpkins and fall decorations, but all of this is hard to enjoy if it’s still scorching hot outside and feels like summer.
Kondapaneni says, “I like fall weather a lot because I can wear fall outfits and can drink fall drinks, and it feels all cozy, but the vibes just feel like they are not there this year.”
Freshman Rayleigh Deese is also a student at Green Level High School that loves fall. She thinks that fall is done for this year if it starts off this hot, and she thinks that it should feel chilly like those picture perfect fall days.
The temperature outside isn’t the only thing hot. This year, the school has been burning up as well. Students can never know what to expect and what to wear. Some days it feels like 1000 degrees in classrooms.
Every day, students have been walking into school and complaining about how hot it is inside. So now, not only is the temperature outside hot, but it is also hot inside, so the only fall thing this fall is apparently the food and decoration.
“I think the building should match the fall weather because it will feel more like fall. Since right now it is hot outside, maybe we could bring the temperature down a little bit so we can wear hoodies to school instead of shorts and shirts every day.” Says Kondapaneni.
Students definitely wish they could do something about the heat inside and out, but they sadly can’t. If the students had that power, it would be the perfect fall weather inside and out.
