Green Level’s cross country team has been having a great season so far, with both the boys and girls teams ranked high in the state and performing well. In their last race, the Adidas XC Challenge, the boys finished 16th and the girls finished in the top 10.
Also during the challenge, senior Nick Morizio broke the record for 5 kilometers in 15 minutes, 39 seconds and 6 milliseconds, the fastest 5K in school history.
“Breaking the record was really nice, but me and Mo should be breaking it again a couple of times since we have 3 or 4 races left. It’s just going to keep going down and it doesn’t matter who has it,” says Morizio. Nick has big aspirations with cross country. After high school he wants to run for a D1 college, so he is prepared to keep training hard and racing fast so he can commit to a school.
When asked about their season so far and his expectations for the rest of it, he said, “as a team we should be up, we’ve been off to not a great start but we really care about going to states as a team and myself, since it has been a dream of mine to run at states. It would be our first time, and even though we are in a tough conference, I know we’re way better than this so I’m confident we are going to get there.”
The girls team is doing great as well, as they finished 10th in their last race and are also highly ranked in the state. They’re coming off of strong seasons, where they won conference back-to-back-to-back. They also won regionals last year, and they are looking forward to achieving even more this year.
“We want to definitely win conference and regionals again, we have a really good team this year with a lot of potential especially on the underclassmen on varsity, and everything has slightly changed because of the new 8A classification. But for the girls team I think this gives us a better chance of placing higher at states,” said senior Amira Khare.
Overall, both teams are performing well and on the path to competing at states. They are working really hard and running very fast to get there.
