When the stadium lights flick on, the sports media team sprints into action. Along the track, members of the club raise their cameras and chase a split second moment, trying to capture a picture that tells the story of the game for that night. The sports media team shoots pictures at every game they can, trying to raise school spirit, using pictures to celebrate wins, and create advertisements for games.
Aarush Kathrani and Dylan Shah started doing media and photography together in 2023, Aarush doing most of the photography and Dylan doing the most editing and adding effects. After realizing how effective they were in media, they decided during their Junior year (2024-2025) to found the sports media club and spread their knowledge. As well as President Dylan and Vice President Aarush, other leaders include Xander Butners and Henry D’Ambrosio, who are both officers. In total, they have approximately 35 members who contribute to the club.
Kathrani says, “The goal of Sports Media club is to share my knowledge, as well as the knowledge of our other leaders on photography, videos, editing, and graphic creations to other students in the school, while promoting green level athletics simultaneously.”
One of the strengths of the sports media club is the range of roles. Not everyone has to be on the sidelines taking pictures. There are other roles like graphic design, editing pictures, and even journalism. On top of the variety of roles, there’s logistics. The Sports Media Club values professionalism and organization. Planning at a meeting every Tuesday on what games to attend, and organizing teams under each category.
“We have very organized meetings in school, usually with photo editing or infographic making sessions or even tutorials for new members. However, when we are planning a bigger project, we usually meet a couple of weeks in advance to plan everything out so it all runs smoothly and meets the deadline we want.” Says Kathrani.
The club’s impact is everywhere. Eye-catching infographics created from emotion-packed photos to convince students to show up to games and remind them when and where to show up.
Promoting Green Level athletics, the club plays a central role in how the community experiences sports.
“Game photos create lasting memories of perseverance, grit, and teamwork of Green Level’s role models, student athletes.” Says Shah. “By sharing the photos, we are sharing these themes and messages with the school, unifying some of our school’s values.”
The students aren’t the only ones who are inspired and affected by the pictures. Sharing game photos celebrates individual and team achievements, making athletes feel seen, recognized, and valued in their sport, and further giving them pride. Consistently posting game pictures on social media brings the community together, giving a sense of belonging to students, parents, and alumni.
“I feel like our pictures create a sense of excitement for the players when they see our posts, especially if they’re in the photos. The excitement encourages students to go out and watch games, which further encourages athletes as they feel supported through school spirit and culture, in an online and offline environment.” Says Shah.
Green Level’s Sports Media Club continues to inspire and make students emotionally invested in our school sports teams, and hopefully will continue to do so after the leaders graduate, as they are already looking for replacements to take over the club next year with all 4 leaders being seniors.
