Facing off against Jordan High school, Green Level hosts their Senior night volleyball game at the swamp. The game recognizes the eight graduating seniors this year including Jayla Egerton, Maia Lyven, Riley Taylor, Hannah Pantiga, Reese Roper, Aarushi Shah, Grace Lominack, and Lindley Miller for their contributions to the team over the last 4 years.
After an emotional night, the gators sweep Jordan winning all 3 sets. 25:9 set 1, 25:15 set 2, and 25:18 set 3.
The team had a good mindset going in.
Jayla Egerton says, “We weren’t going to end our last conference game and senior night on a bad note, we came ready to play but at the same time cherished every last moment of our night.”
To honor the seniors, before the game each senior is announced, and they walk onto the court to take a picture with their families. After the game, there is a speech given for each senior, by a close friend or teammate.
“The speeches were definitely emotional.” Says Egerton, “It’s so special hearing the love and impact us seniors have left on each other and the underclassmen, tears were coming down from people all over the court.”
Throughout the bittersweet night, seniors were able to bond over their high school journey and grieve some of their long lasting memories.
“My favorite memory from Highschool Volleyball was definitely beating Green Hope at their own court for the first time ever, and becoming South Wake Athletic Conference Champions.” Says Riley Taylor.
Maia Lyven says, “My favorite memory would definitely be all the bus rides to far away playoff games and experiencing the fun energetic environment that comes with it. After the games, we would all get Panera Bread too!”
While remembering some of their favorite memories, seniors reflect on all the support they’ve been given, thanking parents, siblings, coaches, and even each other. A final thank you before the end of their season, and soon going off to college.
Multiple Seniors have plans to continue their volleyball career after high school. Jayla is going to play D1 Volleyball at North Carolina Central University and plans to major in education or kinesiology. Riley is going to play D1 Volleyball at the University of Northern Colorado. Lindley Miller committed to play Volleyball at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Hannah Pantiga has committed to play D1 beach volleyball at Georgia State.
Tonight, the volleyball team plays at Green Hope, and if they win they become regular season conference champs. Next week, they hope to win the conference tournament and on October 23rd, playoffs start. Our volleyball team has an impressive record. Being undefeated, they hope to make a huge run during playoffs and even win states all together.
