The Green Level marching band has been off to an incredible start in its competition season. In their last competition at West Johnson High School, they were named the Grand Champions. They competed against many different schools, including Cleveland, Cary, Enloe, and West Johnson. Being named the Grand Champion was a great confidence boost for the band. They’re looking forward to their next competition on October 18 in Orlando.
This competition is a BOA (Bands of America) regional competition. The best bands from across the country are going to be there. Some of the best bands are from Indiana and Texas, both of which will be in attendance at this competition.
Green Level is going to be the only school from North Carolina in attendance so they’re not only representing this school or just Wake County but they’re also representing the whole state.
Junior Douglass Jones, who plays the baritone saxophone, is very excited for the trip to Orlando, not just because of the competition. Jones said, “I’m especially looking forward to our trip to Universal the day after.”
Even though they’ve never won a BOA competition before, they are still feeling confident going into this weekend. However, this is just the first BOA competition of a long season.
Junior, conductor Emily Courteix said, “We have to perform in prelims and then it tells us if we get into finals.”
As conductor, Courteix holds an important role in the Marching Band because she is one of the people who sets and keeps the tempo, stabilizes the band, and makes sure that everyone is in sync.
They’ve been having a great start to the season and are having a great run so far.
They have a 13-14 hour bus ride ahead of them. A bus ride full of nerves and anticipation as they go to Orlando in hopes of securing their first BOA win.
