Student Artist: Emmie Elkoumy

A. Rudolph, Student Life Section Editor

Congratulations to this week’s Artist of the Week, Emmie Elkoumy! Emmie is a Sophomore here at Green Level and has been drawing since the 8th grade. As she explains, “I would take paper and I would outline a picture on a computer screen so then I could be more comfortable with outlining and drawing. Now, because of that practice, I can draw things much easier because of it.” Emmie’s drawings show her creativity and expertise in art. Her favorite artform is photo-realism, which is a genre of art that encompasses painting, drawing and other graphic media, in which an artist studies a photograph and then attempts to reproduce the image as realistically as possible in another medium. Her favorite material to use in her artwork is a pencil. Emmie’s friend, Trisha Rangaraju, says, “I think that she is a good artist because her work looks so real! Her artwork is inspiring. The color she choses are perfect. I love it!”

Emmie suggests to all of the new artists to take it easy when just starting out with art. She says, “Whatever goal you want to get to, you’ll get there, but it takes time. But just know that you will get there. Don’t jump there immediately.” Emmie is also taking Mr. Mapp’s art classes here at Green Level, and she said that she has learned so much about new things in art. We hope you enjoy Emmie’s artwork! Once again, congrats Emmie!
