Foods is not a required class, and there’s not a time or place for everyone to learn how to cook, so how are teenagers supposed to know how to make anything other than cereal? Breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day. It provides nutrients to keep your energy up throughout the day. Do you skip breakfast because you don’t have enough time to make healthy food? We got you covered with our recipes! 

In today’s edition of how to life, we’ll discuss three simple and healthy breakfast recipes you can try at home (and alter according to personal taste):

Smoothie Bowl

Smoothies come in many different colors and flavors, so this following recipe can be altered with ingredients added, taken, substituted and/or replaced.

Ingredients and Tools:

  • Blender
  • 1 Banana
  • ½ Cup of Frozen Mangoes
  • 1 Cup of Kale
  • Half of a Squeezed Lemon
  • ½ Cup of Blueberries
  • 1 Cup of Milk (Dairy or Non-Dairy)
  • Coconut Flakes
  • Cacao Nibs
  • Peanut Butter (to drizzle)

Instructions:

  1. Wash your hands
  2. Soak fresh fruits and vegetables in clean and cool water for at least 5 minutes. Then rinse and dry.
  3. Place banana, mangoes, kale, lemon juice, and milk into the blender and blend until ingredients mix to become a liquid.
  4. Pour smoothie into a bowl and top with granola, coconut flakes, cacao nibs, and peanut butter.
  5. Enjoy! Remember this simple meal can be easily altered by adding different fruits, toppings, and vegetables.

This recipe proves healthy in its variety of ingredients. The lemon provides vitamin C, the mangoes help boost your immune system, the kale helps metabolize fat, the banana helps protect your skin and heart, coconuts help strengthen bone health, and cacao nibs help make you feel full.

Vegetable French Toast

This recipe is easily interchangeable and other than the bread and egg, you can use a variety of vegetables, spices, and other ingredients. This recipe is to make 2 French Toasts. 

Ingredients and Tools:

  • 2 slices of bread (Whole Wheat)
  • 2 Eggs
  • Diced peppers 
  • Diced onions
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Pan

Instructions:

  1. Wash your hands!
  2. Crack two eggs into a bowl and mix it up well.
  3. Add salt and pepper to the egg mix.
  4. Add peppers and onions into the egg mixture (and any other vegetable you would like to add)
  5. Take your slices of bread and dip them into the egg mixture. Make sure to let them soak in there for about 10 seconds so the bread is fully covered.
  6. Take them out and directly put them on a pan on medium heat.
  7. Let the bread toast on both sides, and you’re done!
