Jalen Hurts or Carson Wentz? Who Should Start and Why
December 14, 2020
It has been a pretty rough ride for the Philadelphia Eagles this season despite them being in the worst division this year. They haven’t been able to do what they have been doing the past few years. The Eagles currently have a 3-8-1 record after a loss to the Packers yesterday. They still have a chance to win the NFC East because it’s the worst division in the league, but their chances are really starting to slide. Something the Eagles need to change is their starting quarterback.
Carson Wentz has thrown just one more touchdown compared to his amount of interceptions with 16 touchdowns to 15 interceptions. Eagles fans are starting to get frustrated and want someone else under center. That’s why Jalen Hurts is a great option to go to. He just got a good amount of snaps against the Packers last night. He threw 5 passes for 109 yards and 1 touchdown. This isn’t the greatest, but it was pretty good considering he came in late during the game. In my opinion I think it may be time to fully start Jalen Hurts as he really is starting to show some real talent. The Eagles need to move on from Carson Wentz. He has just been underperforming this year, while a few seasons ago he led the Eagles to the playoffs until an injury. He also only has a quarterback rating of 49.3 (27th), meaning he doesn’t complete a lot of his passes and throws lots of interceptions. Wentz is also getting sacked more than any other quarterback in the league. He is on pace to finish the season with 67 if he happens to start the rest of his games. Jalen Hurts might not be amazing until he develops, but he is way faster, stronger, and more agile under center. He may not throw all the time, but with his speed he can definitely escape pressure or just scramble when he needs to get yards.
It still hasn’t been decided who is going to be the starter in week 14, but it seems that things are starting to change course for Carson Wentz in Philadelphia. This can really give Jalen Hurts the opportunity to shine if everything goes well.
