Food trucks. A DJ. Students and teachers and family all enjoying themselves as the sun finally set on a blazing hot August afternoon. There was only one thing missing from Gator Night on August 8: the Green Level Gator. The Apex Cougar sign still adorning our stadium caused a bit of confusion and consternation, as revelers wondered when Gator Stadium could truly be called their own.

That question was answered today, as our new gator was finally installed at Gator Stadium.

Green Level served as a home away from home for Apex High School during the 2018-2019 school year while their own building was being renovated. When they reclaimed their stadium sign just one day after Gator Night on August 9, Gator Stadium was left with a blank slate while Green Level awaited delivery and installation of their new sign.

The gator, made of metal and standing almost six feet tall, was eagerly anticipated by Green Level staff, especially Athletic Director Colin Fegeley and Principal Karen Summers, who worked with the school’s general contractor throughout the summer to complete the replacement.

Only one problem remains: the gator needs a name. AD Fegeley and Principal Summers will be looking for student suggestions, so be ready to share ideas when the school opens in just five days.
