Why You Should Play Fantasy Football

Why You Should Play Fantasy Football

The start of the NFL season is almost here, with kickoff next Thursday, September 9th. With that, means the start of the fantasy football season. For those that do not know what fantasy football is, it’s essentially a game where participants serve as team owners and they select NFL players who can earn points through various means. (Touchdowns, yards, field goals, etc.)

Here are the top 5 reasons that you should join a fantasy football league.

  • The Social Experience: The social experience of fantasy is what makes it the best. Set up a group chat with your league and talk about anything! If you’re with a group of friends, classmates, or co-workers, being part of an interactive league is an easy way to connect with fellow football fans and you’ll always have something to talk about. According to Dylan Horwin, a senior, “It’s fun, it’s a competition every single week, and you get to play with your friends. It also makes it more fun to watch the game”

  • It makes the games more exciting: Even most die-hard football fans may become bored over the course of the season. Having a fantasy team will eliminate this boredom. Almost every game will have a player on your team or the team you’re playing against. Even if you just like to watch football every once in a while, you’re much more likely to enjoy the experience when you do and maybe you’ll become a bigger fan!

  • The thrill of competition: Humans love competition. Fantasy football is all about friendly competition. Whether you’re a casual or diehard football fan, the thrill of having bragging rights over your friends is unrivaled.

  • It’s fun managing your team: The power is in your hands. Trades, waiver claims, draft picks, team name; it’s all up to you to be as creative and silly as you want to be. Just make sure to do your research and not get fooled by another owner!

  • Anyone can win: A lot of fantasy comes down to luck of the draw. That’s what makes it so fun, it’s a game of speculation. Yes, those that watch more football may have a better chance of winning, but even the best of owners can’t control injuries, the players on the other team all playing incredible, or underperforming in a big playoff game. Everyone has a chance of winning.

Fantasy football is a fun experience for everyone. Whether you’re looking into it for the first time, an experienced player, or somewhere in between, get together with a group of friends, classmates, co-workers, etc. Don’t underestimate the fantasy experience!
