Maria Savvun has committed to continue her athletic and academic career at Southern Virginia University. Maria racked up many nominations, as well as being a consistent scorer for Green Level, averaging 11.4 PPG Maria Savvun was a first team all conference recipient this year, as well as a honorable mention for the award her junior year. She also was nominated on the 3rd all-district team.

Southern Virginia is located in Buena Vista, Virginia, around three

and a half hours away from Cary. I talked with Maria about her recruitment, factors in her decision, and how she feels now

How was your recruitment process? “My recruitment process was fun. I really enjoyed getting to know different coaches and programs but it was also stressful. It feels great to have that stress behind me…instead of worrying about where I’m going.”

Why did you decide on Southern Virginia?  “I wanted to be a part of a successful program that I could contribute to, with coaches that were going to push to make me better. Southern Virginia had all of those attributes.”

Maria also credited Green Level as something that gave her extra recognition. “Playing at green Level gave me a chance to be seen by college coaches. [Green Level] made me a much better basketball player and person.”
