The 4A State Championship Track & Field Meet marks the end of the 2021-2022 athletic year for the Gators, the first full year of athletics here at Green Level due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The championship meet was held at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro on the weekend of May 21st. The Gators brought 13 individuals to the championship meet.

Alexa Nestor (Jr) and Chorley Truitt (Jr) had a very strong meet. Alexa and Chorley finished 8th place in the 100 hurdles and pole vault competition. Alexa broke her personal and school record to place in 5th place in the 300 hurdles. We got a chance to ask Alexa a few questions about her performance.

What does it mean to you to finish 5th place in 300 hurdles?

Alexa: “It’s still not where I want to be but it is showing that I’m progressing and learning to love an event that I disliked at first.”

Talk me through your preparation that led to your strong finish.

Alexa: “I prepared by practicing a lot and getting mentally comfortable with running out of my comfort zone. I also had people I wanted to beat so I wanted to push myself.”

Congratulations to Alexa, Chorley, and all of the runners that competed at the State Meet in Greensboro. The spring sports celebration will be on June 1st followed by Senior Awards night on June 2nd.
