If 2024 was the year “brainrot” was created, then 2025 is the evolution of brainrot. It’s truly taken the nation and even the world by storm. According to Merriam Webster, “Brain rot refers to material of low or addictive quality, typically in online media, that preoccupies someone to the point it is said to affect mental functioning.”
The most notable piece of brainrot to emerge in 2025 is the “6-7” meme. It has gotten to the point where little children are saying “6-7.” There are videos of children learning numbers, and when they reach the numbers 6 and 7, they know exactly which numbers those are, along with children going to basketball games as a school trip, and when a team gets to 67, they all go crazy. This is the most notable brainrot; however, it’s only the surface.
The first meme to start in 2025 was called “chopped chin.” It was a video of a guy dancing courtside while watching a basketball game. It seemed normal until people started editing it. This shows the power that the community has on brainrot. The people are what create brainrot.
Comeback meme of the year was undoubtedly the MASSIVE low taper fade meme. It had a great prime in 2024 and then had one of the greatest comebacks in 2025, showing its longevity as a meme. A close second for this award was Tung Tung Sahoor. He made a strong comeback towards the end of 2025, coming back with the nickname: Triple T or T^3.
The two memes that shocked everyone with a late run in 2025 were Jayden’s Bus meme and Khaby Lame’s mechanism meme, which was made after the popular influencer Khaby Lame and his signature move.
Overall, 2025 has been one of the most prominent years for memes, alongside the 2016-2018 meme run.
