Have you ever opened instagram and seen posts containing photos of Green Level athletes? Many of these photographers are students at Green Level, and they are all part of one club whose mission is to promote the athletics program.
Sports Media Club is an organization that works to make graphics and other types of media for the school. They work together to cover every Green Level sport, using different forms of media to promote each and every one.
Every Tuesday, leaders and members of the club meet in the Media Center to talk about future events, recap past events, and practice new techniques of media. The club is open and available to anyone, no matter your knowledge level, or prior skills.
Starting next calendar year, the keys of the club will turn to rising sophomore Ved Kataria, and rising Junior Luke Walsh. Kataria joined the club his freshman year, to try out something different.
“I wanted to support my school in a unique way,” Kataria explained. “I also wanted to show my abilities in photography.”
Kataria is one of the main photographers in the Sports Media club, and he attends Green Level sporting events regularly for the club.
Kataria recalls one photoshoot in recent time that has been his favorite during his time at Green Level.
“The recent men’s lacrosse senior night photo shoot,” Kataria explained. “It really allowed me to showcase more emotion in my photos with the players and their families.”
For next year, the leaders are still deciding on possible changes to the club. Kataria expects new changes and more interactive meetings next calendar year.
Kataria believes others should look forward to these changes and join Sports Media club next year for a multitude of reasons.
“It’s a fun and creative environment that allows everyone to express their take on the school’s media, whether that’s in video, graphics, photos, or interviews.” Kataria said.
Whether you’re looking to get behind the lens or behind the scenes, Sports Media Club offers a great opportunity to attend Green Level athletic events and showcase your talents. Make sure to check them out every Tuesday in the Media Center.
