Green Levels theater is putting on a production of The Candidate, which is a drama directed by Brett Holland, on Thursday April 30, and Friday May 1. As well, they are putting on a one act showing of The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon by Don Zolidis.
The play The Candidate is about a politician who loses his moral compass while chasing a high ranking office. To win over voters and rich donors, he replaces his actual beliefs with a polished, fake persona, leading to a series of chaotic disasters.
Through these disasters, the story shows how the hunger and desire for power can destroy a person’s integrity. Cayetana Hernandez plays the role of Dr. Runnels, who is an ambitious pre-med student who navigates a series of hard tests during an important government interview.
“I’m really excited about this show and we have been putting a lot of work into this. It’s a little bittersweet considering it’s our last show of the school year and a lot of the cast is seniors.” Hernandez stated, “A lot of work is also being put in by the tech team, because they do all the lights, music, and help with backdrops all to make the performance run smoothly.”
The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon is a comedy where a small cast performs all 209 Grimm fairy tales by condensing them into one long act. It shows the stories in more or a lighter mood in comparison to the darkness of the original stories. Hernandez also plays a role in this performance.
“In this play I have the role of an audience member, which is a smaller role but I still love being able to help everyone else with their parts.” She stated, “This show features narrators who cover and explain what is happening within the fairy tales.”
Showing starts at 7pm on both Thursday April 30 and Friday May 1, in the Auditorium. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students. Make sure to come out and support your fellow Gators!
