Team poses for picture after Regionals match.

The Gators have done it again! On Monday, 5/8, the men’s golf team took on Regionals at Pinehurst No. 6. The team took on the course last year and had 4 qualify and this year was no different.

After their 3rd place finish at the SWAC Conference match at Keith Hills last week, the team was ready to take on the competition in Pinehurst. The team had 5 players competing and 4 of them made the cut into states. It was a beautiful day for golf and the team took that opportunity to go out and dominate. The team had all 4 qualifying scores in the 70’s. SN. Drew Eggers went out and fired a 1-under 71 and placed tied for third overall for the entire tournament. Next came JR. Cooper Champ with a 76 (+4), JR. Peter Pucci with a 78 (+6) and SO. Quin Covington with a 79 (+7). While the team did not place in the top three, they weren’t far from it. They placed only 4 strokes behind Apex Friendship, who clinched third place. Since the team had 4 qualifying players, they are able to compete all together as a team one last time before the season is over.

I got the chance to talk to Drew about how he felt about his round on Monday and his feelings about States being his final match in his high school career.

What were your main goals for regionals?

My main goal was to make states at all costs and not let this be my last high school match. I also wanted to play well at a course that I knew pretty well but that’s something you always want to do.

What emotions are you feeling since states are the last match of your high school career?

I don’t think it’s really hit me yet but when it does I have no idea what it’s gonna feel like. It definitely is going to be weird though.

The team will take on States on Monday and Tuesday of next week at Pinehurst NO. 8. Be sure to wish them luck. We know you guys are going to do great!
