This Friday, September 22nd, the Gators take on the Middle Creek Mustangs in their 2nd conference game of the 2023 season at their home field.
So far, the Gators are 1-0 in the conference and 2-2 overall, just coming off of a huge win last Friday in their first conference game against Cary, winning 28-18 and successfully defending the Crosstown Cup. A historic game for the Gators, Symon Sadler broke his own school record of rushing yards in a single game, getting a total of 236 yards.
That being said not all went well, as the starting quarterback, Gavin Jones, was unfortunately made unable to play in the upcoming game.
On the opposing end, Middle Creek has not fared as well, being 1-3 overall and having lost their first conference game to Holly Springs. However, in the previous 2022 season, the Mustangs did beat the Gators, albeit with a close 26-20 score. We wanted to see what the team thought of the upcoming game, especially to last year’s performance, and how they were preparing. Junior Isaiah Ross, offensive lineman, said,
“I think if we play our game, do what we know, we’re capable of Friday night, we’ll control the field, put on a show and get the win. We’ve been prepping by trying to get our minds right and raise the competition between each other to get better each day, bit by bit and get our minds in that aggressive state for the game.”
We also interviewed non-players for their opinion on how the game would go. Senior Michael Crusenberry, part of the sports med team, said,
“I like our odds, we have a better record, even though it’s only barely so, and we are playing at home so I think we can pull through. That being said, our starting quarterback is out right now, which may be a hindrance…”
Overall, the mood seems cautiously optimistic about winning among players and students alike, but we’ll just have to wait till Friday to see how it all goes down!
