Last Saturday, the Green Level Cross Country team competed in the Adidas XC Challenge at Wakemed. Athletes come from all different areas to compete at this meet, which makes the races extremely competitive and fast.
Both the girls JV and Varsity teams did phenomenal. The JV girls placed 2nd and the Varsity girls placed 3rd. Sophomores Naomi Greengrass and Neela Chintapalli did exceptionally well, placing in the top 35.
Greengrass shared her thoughts on the gators performance, “The race was really fun. We had never done the meet as a team and it was a good opportunity to run at our home course. Placing third as a team allowed our state ranking to move up, which is exciting.”
In addition, Chintapalli had similar feelings, “I’m really proud of our team for placing 3rd. I thought our pack running was pretty good this race, finishing a couple seconds after each other.”
The Boys Varsity and JV both competed and worked very hard. There were a lot of PR’s and tight pack running throughout both races.
Senior Jake Lominack discussed his takeaways from Saturday, “The team performed well all around. I think that our team is really coming together in their ability to pack run, which is allowing us to gain confidence and momentum as we move late into the season.”
Overall, both teams came out to compete and worked hard this past weekend. The gators will use their races as a learning experience in order to further prepare them for the next big meet, Great American.
