Green Level High School had its fifth senior night on Friday, October, 25th. This year’s Senior Night was the biggest so far with over 80 seniors being recognized for their commitment to the school and its athletic/performing arts programs. Most people tend to believe that Senior Night is meant for the football and cheerleading teams but it’s much more than that, especially for Green Level. Over half of the Seniors called are part of the award-winning marching band and color guard here at Green Level. Green Level takes pride in its performing arts division, with the large number of students who are part of it and the awards that have been won.
That didn’t stop the Green Level football team from pulling off the 27-14 win against the Green Hope Falcons. The game started badly for the Gators as the opening kickoff was returned to the Gator’s 10-yard line. The Falcons would go on to score a touchdown but the Gators fought their way back and held the lead to the final buzzer. Green-level students would go on to rush the field and soak in the last home game of the Gator season with a win.
But how much does Senior Night mean to the Green Level gators? Many find it heartwarming to feel all of the support from their peers and teachers and some find it sad to know that it’s their last high school football game. No matter which way you push it, Senior Night is a great night to honor all of the students who have put hard work and dedication into the school.
The surrealness of finally being the class that walks across the field and getting their name called one at a time is overwhelming for some.
“…knowing that last year we were the class that was back in the locker room and knew that it was going to be a year until we were the class that wasn’t in the locker room and instead walking across the field this year felt surreal” Austin Conway, TE/LB/P for the Green Level football team, comments.
Many more emotions go into the atmosphere surrounding senior night including happiness, gratitude, and pure appreciation for the years that Green Level has given to some.
“It felt sort of surreal because it was just one moment that was capturing all 4 years of my time here at Green Level, I just felt grateful for all of the support I had received throughout my 4 years at Green Level.” Cecily North, Senior Cheerleader, adds.
Green Level has been a safe and supportive environment for all its students, especially those involved in extracurricular activities. It has established many lifelong friendships and life lessons for students to carry on to college and beyond.
Cecily North says, “I’ve learned how to balance school life and academics with my athletic and social life because being a student-athlete can be tough for some, especially at such a rigorous school.”
“I’ve learned that you are much more than just an athlete or a number on the field and coaches will recognize you for that. They will try to support you in as many ways as possible.” Austin Conway tells.
Green Level has been such a warm and welcoming environment for every student who walks through the door. Every student feels that but the student-athletes feel that especially. They are supported to the very best of the school’s ability and are recognized for their hard work and dedication to the school once their four years of high school are all said and done. Green Level’s 2024 Senior Night was one to remember and the seniors recognized are something special to the school.
