Our Green Level team competed in the Wakefield Wrestling Challenge this past Saturday. That night, we came home victorious, with our team having 4 wrestlers who placed!
On our team, Thomas Gingerich and Will Estes won 1st place in their respective weight categories, Jacqueline Ball won 2nd place in her weight category, and Josh Brezac took home 3rd place in his category. Congratulations to all these amazing athletes!
Jacqueline Ball was a star wrestler at the competition and was happy to be able to do as well as she did.
She says that she wished that she did a little better but was very happy overall with her results. A large factor in her success and motivation is Mr. Degeeter, a faculty member at Green Level and the coach for wrestling, who supports her through every step.
“The thrill of the round is all about the nerves. You spend more time getting ready and preparing yourself.” is what Ball says when she is asked about the experience and thrill of competing.
Overall our wrestling team did wonderful individually and as a group, representing our school proudly.
To follow up on last week’s tournament, Green Level will host a home match tonight! Our gymnasium will see our Gators at 5:00 today, where they will compete against Jordan High’s wrestling team. Don’t miss it! This dual will be 1 of the 2 that will happen in our school, so show up and show out!
Like most athletic programs in GLHS, the wrestling team brings hard work and commitment toward the development of student-athletes both on and off the mat. The team competes in the NCHSAA classification (North Carolina High School Athletic Association), a league filled with tough regional and state competition.
Their season records these past few years have been phenomenal and they continue with that this year. Let’s come out to support our fellow Gator athletes!
