The Green Level women’s tennis team has been unstoppable so far this season. They are currently ranked first in the conference and sixth in the state, and they’ve kept the momentum going with an incredible 11-match winning streak. Every match adds to the excitement of what’s shaping up to be a special season for the Gators.
“It feels really good to be part of a group like this,” junior Anu Lalsangi says. “I’m proud of the team for working so hard, especially with playing these long six-hour matches. Our endurance has to be really high, and I think we’ve done a great job of making sure of that.”
A key to the team’s remarkable success has been their ability to persevere through a match, refusing to let an unfavorable score stop them from fighting back.
“My favorite moment was when we were playing against Panther Creek,” Lalsangi says. “We had already lost the first match and the score was tied 4-4 overall, so it came down to the last doubles game that would decide the winner. We were down in the doubles 7-0, but we managed to make a comeback and tie at 7-7. Even though they won 7-9, I think watching us go from 7-0 to 7-7 was a great thing to see and proof of our perseverance.”
The team has an overall record of 11-1 and a 9-1 record within the conference; they lost the first match of the season, but quickly turned it around as they went on to win the next eleven matches, even managing a win against Panther Creek the second time they played them. Besides PC, they have taken on Broughton, Willow Spring, Apex Friendship, Apex, Jordan, and Green Hope, some of which they have played twice, all of which they have maintained a perfect record against.
The team will be playing their last match of the season against the Jordan Falcons on September 29. Lalsangi says, “I’m really looking forward to our last match on Monday because it’s Senior Night. We have a bunch of stuff planned for them, and I’m really going to miss them.”
Be sure to get out there to support the Green Level women’s tennis team this Monday as they honor their seniors and take on the Falcons for what is sure to be a memorable end to an exceptional season!
