Did you wake up a couple days ago and notice that when you went to school it was still pitch dark outside or that when you came home later at night it was still light outside? The 2026 Spring Forward has officially arrived, meaning we are finally leaving the freezing months of winter.
Spring Forward is another name for the Spring version of Daylight Saving, which is what we all know it by. Spring forward happens when there is a shift during the middle of the light and the clocks move one hour creating an extra hour of daylight at the end of the day and taking away an hour from the morning.
Many people have controversial opinions on whether they like Spring Forward or daylight saving better and it has sparked a heated topic for people to discuss.
Sophomore Alyssa Velazquez, prefers Spring Forward claiming that it allows for her to get in bed earlier and feel better during the day.
“Spring Forward impacts my day in a positive way, it makes me feel like I have less of a rush to get stuff done and it allows me to get in bed earlier because I am more productive during the day since the daytime is longer.” She says
Having that extra hour of sunlight can really make a huge difference, even if you do not realize it. Especially for people in sports, it could help them feel less tired, or in other circumstances it could do the opposite.
Senior Elizabeth Gullick loves summer so having Spring Forward arrive helps her feel better about knowing that summer is coming and she will soon be able to enjoy the warm weather.
“I like Spring Forward especially because when the sun sets earlier, it reminds me of summertime and it makes me feel better because I know it is coming up.” She says.
By adding just a little bit of sunlight to the day, it can really change people’s moods and attitudes. That small amount of sunshine can really have a positive effect and make our days go much better and smoother. Goodbye winter!
