Yesterday, the men’s golf team traveled to Holly Springs, the home course of Apex Friendship. Including the Gators, eight teams competed against one another. Coming off a previous 4th place performance, the Gators were looking to improve their conference standing.

12 Oaks is a incredibly tight course, with penalty areas on both sides of nearly every hole. Driving the ball straight off the tee is a must, or penalties can quickly accumulate. Double and triple bogeys happened at a much higher rate then at RGA, as 12 Oaks offered a much bigger challenge to players. Ben Hays was the leading scorer for Green Level, putting up an impressive 39.

One Freshman who has broke onto the scene for the Gators was Quin Covington. Quin has started his high school golf career well, with his scores being in the top 3 for the gators in both matches. I wanted to talk to Quin about how he is settling into high school golf. “Its different [than the tournaments I played this summer]. Sometimes it is pretty slow but I just have to focus on taking my time because I know I have the time for each shot. Quin shot the 2nd best score for the Gators yesterday, firing a 41.

The Gators finished 3rd place in the match, tying Apex Friendship for third place in the SWAC.

The team’s next match takes place at Prestonwood Country Club on Monday 3/14.

Good Luck!
