Sunday, September 28, the NFL announced who is going to be the headliner for the next Super Bowl halftime show, happening on February 8, 2026. It is none other than the Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny, one of the most popular artists in the world right now, and the most popular artist from Latin America from this decade.
The league has been trying to get more new fans worldwide playing games in different countries, such as Brazil, Germany, Spain and Ireland. And getting Bad Bunny to perform in the biggest game of the year is a great idea to do that, getting most of his fans to turn on the TV on that Sunday night and watch the game.
Bad Bunny is the first Latin male artist to headline the Super Bowl, and most American fans didn’t like the choice, as they would prefer someone who spoke English. Many are complaining that they are not going to be able to understand his lyrics and enjoy an event that is predominantly watched by an American public. Last year, over 180 million people watched the Super Bowl worldwide, with more than 120 million of them being Americans.
“I don’t really know who Bad Bunny is, but I don’t hate the pick if he is popular nowadays, but I think he should sing some songs in English so people can understand him and what he’s saying.” said Ms. Raines, a business and entrepreneurship teacher.
She thinks that it might get more people from different countries to watch the game and be more interested in the sport and increase its popularity worldwide.
“It was very unexpected, and as a NFL fan, you wouldn’t think that Bad Bunny would be performing at the Super Bowl, and I guess it would be cool for the Latin American community, but I don’t really like it.” said sophomore Noah Wallace.
In Noah’s opinion, international artists performing in the Super Bowl is not a positive thing for the league, since most NFL fans are Americans and are not going to be able to understand the lyrics and enjoy the event as much as if it was an English-speaking singer.
On the internet and everywhere, people disagree and the decision of Bad Bunny performing has been a big controversy worldwide, but the league’s popularity is definitely going to improve in the Spanish-speaking communities with his performance.
