August Sports Recap

Green Level’s first day of school was on Tuesday, August 27th. Even though school has just begun, the athletic season has been in full swing for the past couple of weeks. Our fall sports kicked off on July 31st. The Volleyball team is among the best in the state, our football team lost a close OT game at South Granville, the soccer team has struggled early on adapting to the seniors who left and the women’s tennis team has an undefeated record throughout 4 games.

Volleyball – So far this year the Green Level Gators stand at a record of 3-2. In their most recent game, they displayed a dominant performance over the Apex Cougars. NC State commit Talia Francom had a dominant performance to help lead the Gators with 25 kills. There have been a lot of other dominant pieces including Riley Taylor, Maddie Simmons, Naja Thigpen, and Scarlett Taylor. The Gators have been without Lindley Miller so far this season who is a dominant outside hitter. She will make her return this Thursday against Panther Creek. The Gators are a young team that will be a threat to win the conference and make a run in the playoffs this year.

Football – Green Level Football has a record of 0-1 after their first game this past Friday against South Granville. The Gators played a tight ball game forcing the game into overtime. The Vikings were able to get a goal-line stop on the Gators ‘ point conversion to secure the win. Despite the loss, there were some players who had an incredible game. Will Estes broke the school record for tackles for loss along with Anthony Zheng who led the team in tackles. The offensive duo of Jacob Fedich and Aaron Sadler had some major plays to keep the Gators in the game. Even with the loss the Gators look to come back to the Swamp and make a statement against Willow Springs.

Men’s Soccer – In Coach Poland’s first year, the soccer team is heading into the school year with a 2-3 record. They have won games against Jordan and A.L. Brown. Sr. Will Alexander has led the team in goals with a total of 2 this season. Jr. Jalen Gibbs has 13 steals this year. They have a week off before taking on Willow Spring on September 4th.

Women’s Tennis – The Gators are off to a hot start this season starting off at 4-0, with their most recent win against Cary on the first day of school, 8-0, making a statement against the imps. Women’s tennis looks for another very successful season ahead of them with their next game against Holly Springs on Wednesday.

The Gators are off to a hot start this fall sports season and we are excited to see how the rest of the season is going to pan out.
