This Thursday, on October 30, the varsity football team faces Green Hope while hosting their annual Senior Night at the Swamp. Senior night recognizes a total of 6 different teams- Football, Cheer, Dance, Women’s Flag Football, Sports Medicine, and the Marching Band.
Before the game starts, each Senior is called out and escorted with their family across the track. They shake their coach’s hands and then stop to take a photo behind a backdrop.
Senior Night gives the football team the opportunity to earn their first and last home win of the season and end with a 2-8 record. In the past, Green Level has beaten Green Hope, but this year, the Falcons bring a strong record of 5-4 that will challenge the Gators. With this being many of the seniors’ final game on their home field, they’ll be looking to end their season on a high note.
Although this is not the last time you will see the Cheer and Dance Team in their uniforms. Their season doesn’t completely end until February, when they go to Orlando, Florida, for UCA and UDA nationals. In between, you can catch them at local competitions and basketball games, cheering on the women’s and men’s teams.
Senior dance team member, Shaya Sharma, says, “Going into the game, I’m not necessarily sad because we still have a lot of fun things later in the year, like going to Orlando, and I just want to soak up all that time with the team.”
This also won’t be the last time you see the 2025 Marching Band. They are heading to a competition in Cary this Saturday, November 1, where they will compete against the best bands in the Southeast.
Each team has its own tradition for celebrating the Seniors. For example, the football team has a jar for each senior, where their teammates write memories they have made with them over the years. The seniors’ moms also make them shadow boxes that have pictures and scrap pieces that they have collected with the football team.
Other traditions include the dance team, where the underclassmen write each senior a heartfelt letter reminiscing on memories in the past. They also walk the seniors blindfolded down to the football field to reveal their banners during practice.
Senior dance team member, Lainey Beamish, says, “I am elated to finally be the one to receive the letters because in my 4 years on the dance team, I have had to write over 30 letters for the past seniors, so it is nice to finally be on the other end.”
Tonight, all of the seniors will get recognized for all of their hard work and dedication that they have put in to make their mark at Green Level in the athletics and arts departments.
