Tryouts for the Green Level Dance Team will take place May 18-21 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in the main gym. As one of Green Level’s athletic teams, dance combines technical skill, teamwork, and performance while representing the school at games, competitions, and events throughout the season.
This year’s tryouts will also introduce new assistant coach and GLDT Alumni Elise Stopankus to the program. In addition, graduating seniors from this year’s team will help run the tryouts and guide dancers throughout the process.
Dancers are expected to demonstrate strong technique and performance quality throughout the week.
Required skills for tryouts include:
- Triple pirouette on the right side
- Double pirouette on the left side
- Right, left, and middle leaps
- Tilt jump on the right side
- Firebird on the right side
- Calypso on the right side
- Turning disc on the right
- 8 high kicks with arms in a high V
- 4 a la seconde turns pulling into a double (8 preferred)
Senior dancer Emma Cobb encouraged students trying out for the first time to stay confident throughout the process.
“I think it is really just important to be yourself and not let the pressure of tryouts get to you,” Cobb said.
As she prepares for her final season on the team, Cobb said she is especially excited for the memories that she will make.
“I’m looking forward to being a senior obviously and then also meeting my new teammates,” she said.
Coach Dula is also looking ahead to the opportunities the upcoming season could bring for the program.
“My expectations for the upcoming season would probably be to perform better technically and perform better together as well as perform more in different spaces and hosting our invitational this year,” Dula said.
Students planning to audition are encouraged to spend the week before tryouts practicing skills, stretching consistently, and coming in with a positive attitude.
Although the team will not attend nationals this year, the upcoming season still brings excitement as dancers prepare for another year of performances, competitions, and school spirit.
